Stage Combat & Shakespeare - All Night Long

Hello kick-ass fighters of NYC!

Your bad-assness is being summoned! Curious Frog Theatre Company invites you to showcase your best Bard brawl at BARD WARS, our upcoming Shakespearean battle night fund-raising event on August 24th at 8pm! Use a fight you’ve choreographed in the past or do something fresh!

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND FOR YOUR FIGHT:
  • Want to use weapons? Awesome! Please note that you will be responsible for supplying your own weapons, actors and rehearsal time/space.
  • We strongly encourage actors of color, female fighters and LGBT to be used.
  • Your fight can be anywhere from 3 - 10 minutes. Be creative and have fun with your fight! Make it super contemporary, set it in outer space, Sesame Street or keep it true to the period! Use dialogue, costumes, a scene to lead into the fight, found object weapons, etc.  Just remember, if you are going to use dialogue it should only be Shakespeare’s words, and these fights should only be taken from Shakespeare plays. 

EVENT LOGISTICS:

  • The event will be held on August 24th at 8pm at 17 Frost Art Space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. 17 Frost Street. (L to Lorimer/G to Metropolitan) The show itself will run approx. 1 hour and 15min with a reception following. That means booze and live music.
  • The space will be open at 2pm. Fighters are welcome to run their fight in the space prior to performance. Fighters MUST be there by 6:30pm the day of performance. If you would like to arrange a day to visit the space, please email me.
  • The dimensions of the space your actors will have is 22 ft wide and 18 ft deep from audience to the back wall. The walls can NOT be used in fights. All three sides of the walls are projector screens with space between the screen and the actual wall. The floor is soft dance floor, but protective gear may still be necessary.
  • There is limited dressing room/green room space. There is one small room behind the theater which will be used ONLY for storing weapons. Actors will be held behind audience and must retrieve their weapons from the back during the transition into their scene.
  • The space offers live visuals during the event. If there is a particular image or video you would like projected during your fight, please email me specifics. Keep in mind any moving images should be minimal as it will be distracting and therefore unsafe to the fighters. For example, trickling blood down the side of the walls for Macbeth may be fun. Kaleidoscopic blood and guts flying all over the place might be distracting.

PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR INTEREST AND AVAILABILITY FOR THIS EVENT ASAPth . 
Upon your confirmation, you will receive your Fight Proposal Form which will require all necessary information regarding your fight. This will be due by Monday, August 1st.
**Please submit names of all AEA fighters being used IMMEDIATELY so that they can be cleared to perform for a benefit performance and so that we can market appropriately.
