Cherry Hill and Inwood Hill Park this weekend for free Shakespeare!

Dsc_0737
This Friday, Aug 25th, we continue with Julius Caesar.  PLEASE NOTE this performance will start at 6:30pm, a change from previous start time.

This performance is actually a debut for our company at this particular venue:  Cherry Hill in Central Park. Enter from W. 72nd and CPW for easiest access to this hidden spot, and head toward Bethesda Fountain and go up the hill next to it, to your right if you are facing the bridge while at the Fountain.

Picnic fare can be picked up at Columbus Circle’s Whole Foods if you are up for a walk, but we especially love Westerly Market esp. since they just renovated!  Organic produce and packaged vegan and omnivore goods will allow for a unique, delicious dinner.  Don’t forget to ask for napkins and plasticware at the cash register, and tell them Curious Frog sent you!

On Saturday, Aug 26th, at Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan, we think the rain just might hold for our DOUBLE BILL!  The comedy, Two Gentlemen of Verona, plays at 4pm and Julius Caesar is at 6pm.  Both shows play at Inwood Hill Park’s The Peninsula, which is located next to the Nature Center and the baseball diamond on the marsh.  You’ll enter at 218th St. & Indian Road, and walk down the wide road and over the little bridge.

For this location, we always love to recommend Indian Road Café right there at the corner of 218th St. & Indian Rd, and everyone always says, “What a find!”  Indeed they are!  Just know that sometimes the wait can be long, so give yourself an extra 30-45 minutes to not just wait, but to make it a full, leisurely day of fantastic dining and beautiful surroundings during a Shakespearean play—or two.

As always, look for our chalk arrows on the sidewalks and pathways to lead you to us!  Telltale sign that you have found us would be the streamers and balloons to say farewell to Valentine for his trip away from Verona!

See you tomorrow and/or Saturday!  Bring a blanket or low chair, and sunblock and a rain jacket.  Remember to check our phone line at 646-450-2878 if it looks like rain.  We’ll let you know by 2 hours before curtain whether it’s a go.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Stage Combat combined with Shakespeare combined with light sabers! Aug 24th only.

Our final one-night event is happening in the midst of a summer of Shakespeare which has already received its first great review!

Bard Wars is this Wednesday night, August 24th, at 8pm.  What the heck is “Bard Wars”, you ask?

Well ok, picture a lot of Shakespeare, a lot of fighters, and a lot of weaponry flying about…including light sabers.  Yes, that’s right.  Light sabers.

Come to this one-hour show comprised of short scenes from various Shakespeare plays which include fights.  You’ll see more contemporary versions (the aforementioned light saber fight, umbrella fight) as well as more traditional weaponry (daggers, unarmed).  Then afterward, join us for art and freestyle jazz group 2s and 4s, who you may remember from our Sonnet-a-Thon earlier this year on Valentine’s Day.  Funderground, who is sponsoring the space, will be selling whatever vintage wine or cocktail you would like—including some modern versions of mead (which some call beer).

We’re feeling casual this summer, so tickets are only $10.  We basically just want you to come have a great time on the cheap.  Oh, and did I forget to mention?  We’re raffling off a light saber, valued at $100, with only $2 raffle tickets.  Who doesn’t love a good raffle?

So, grab a pair of jeans and a cute top, or your Princess Leia earmuff and a Shakespearean ruff, and join us this Wednesday in Williamsburg.  You really won’t forget this night, I assure you.  And it’s nice to see something unique, wouldn’t you say?

Details are here!:

TICKETS ($10):  bardwars.eventbrite.com

DATE:  Wednesday, August 24th

TIME:  8:00pm sharp!

LOCATION:  Frost Art Space, 17 Frost St., Williamsburg Brooklyn

QUESTIONS?:  angela.sharp@curiousfrog.org

See you there!

Best,

Reneé

Rego Park: Shakespeare’s comedy “Two Gents” on Tuesday at Juniper Valley Park

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

This Tuesday, Aug 16th, we continue with Two Gentlemen of Verona.  We’ll be bringing you back to 1983 for some fun in the feathered-hair world of shoulder pads and converse shoes.

Our 7pm performance is actually a debut for our company at this particular venue:  Juniper Valley Park, serving the Middle Village and Rego Park areas in Queens. This one’s a little out of the way, but the R (to the Q38 bus) and F (to the Q45 bus) trains will allow you to discover and explore this pretty park.  Or just grab the QM15 from Manhattan if you prefer to be above ground for the drive.

Find us by entering the park at Juniper Blvd N & 75th Place.  Look for our chalk arrows on the sidewalks and pathways to lead you to us!  Telltale sign that you have found us would be the streamers and balloons to say farewell to Valentine for his trip away from Verona!

See you Tuesday!  Remember to check our phone line at 646-450-2878 if it looks like rain.

This is an AEA-approved showcase.
